What is Microneedling?

Microneedling enhances the overall tone and texture of the skin, improving multiple conditions such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne, acne scarring, sun damage, and more. This rejuvenating treatment triggers the natural production of collagen and elastin, resulting in beautiful, radiant skin. A series of microneedle treatments provide even better results than those obtained through laser treatments.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling, also known as collagen-induction therapy, involves targeted microtrauma. This microtrauma triggers or stimulates the body’s natural healing process. Once the area is stimulated, collagen and elastin are delivered to the target area, repairing the tiny injuries created, and filling up our fine lines and wrinkles. Using a pen-like device, we create these micro-traumas or cut through tiny but assertive needles that cause a little bit of bleeding.

Usually, three to five sessions are necessary to achieve the desired results on your skin and to really activate or trigger the collagen. However, some individuals might need more or less treatments, our expert dermatologist will guide you through the entire treatment and determine the best process for your skin concerns. Even if the procedure sounds extremely painful, you will only feel a minor discomfort because an anesthetic or numbing cream is applied before the treatment.

Before your Treatment

Microneedling is considered an extremely safe and accessible treatment for all skin types and colours, and it can be performed on sensitive areas such as the neck and under the eyes (targeting eye bags). The main recommendation before the procedure is to stay away from the sun for at least 24 hours, do not take any autoimmune medication, and arrive at our clinic with a clean face and no makeup.

We cannot recommend this procedure if you have used Accutane in the past three months, have open wounds, cuts, or abrasions, have had radiation skin in the past year, or have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars. Also, people with skin infections, herpes, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not suitable candidates for this treatment.

During your Treatment

Before the procedure, we will apply a numbing cream for a painless experience. Treatments take about an hour, but depending on the area, it may take longer. During that time, we use a pen-like device with microneedles that will pierce the skin to about 2mm deep. The cuts will trigger our natural healing process, within the production of collagen and elastin. Visible results show after a series of 3 to 5 treatments spaced every 4 to 6 weeks apart, and continuous skin improvement will be noticed for up to six months.

After Care

After your treatment, your face will turn bright red. Some patients heal after 24 hours after the procedure, but the redness usually goes away after 1 to 2 days. You may also experience dryness for 3-5 days, depending on your skin type, but this is all natural. Also, you might see small pointy scabs, but do not touch them, they will fall off once the skin is completely healed.
