The lymphatic system itself has one job: to return fluid and waste to the bloodstream for recycling.

This therapeutic massage can be beneficial after surgery, radiation treatment, injury recovery, or any condition that causes edema (fluid retention). Symptoms of swollen tissue due to lymph issues include golden or darkened skin coloration around the affected area which may appear puffy, swollen, warm to touch, and tender to pressure. Other symptoms of possible hidden issues within your lymphatic system are pain in joints (lower back pain), excess mucous production causing lung congestion (lung cancer) chronic lung issues like asthma/bronchitis, and extreme fatigue.

How does Lymphatic Drainage Massage work?

Lymphatic drainage massage is performed on the areas of the body which are closer to the trunk, such as the underarms, abdomen, back of legs, and the neck. This is because most lymphatic flow occurs in the upper body. The armpits are located near where lymph nodes are found for draining fluid out through the arms. Massaging these areas helps with relieving heaviness in the arms when they are swollen due to excess fluid build-up.
